This was a project undertaken with my feature film partner Karl Howman (Howman & Cetintas) to produce a documentary for Kent Police. A very worthy project to be involved with; to try and curb the increasing use of weapons such as guns and knives in schools.
This kind of violence has become endemic amongst the young with gang culture and the Kent Police contacted Karl for help. Karl is an active resident of the area and well known for the various charities he belongs to for helping youth. Together, a major decision was made to involve a school full of the target audience and get the children there to tell their stories in their own way.
Guidance was given them for the script writing, music score and after a school casting session, children from the school were given the actual roles to play. With the great assistance of the Kent police, a recreation of typical events involving arms were filmed, featuring the children whose stories were being told, acted by them and Kent Police.
The end result speaks for itself, a proud moment for all involved and a documentary which has been used extensively in schools to great effect.
