Besides being a
commercials director, Ethem has been
involved in the arts of image and music since childhood. He often remarks
that he’s extremely lucky to have a job that also happens to be his hobby. His first interest started around the age of three (according to his mother) when he started to sing his own songs accompanying himself with an egg-slice, using it like a miniature harp. He quickly progressed to a piece of string stretched onto a broom, double bass style. By the age of four he was playing the piano pieces set by a tutor for his sister and also started to play the accordion. Then his life changed forever when he saw the film The Young Ones and was entranced by the beautiful electric guitar played by Hank Marvin. And so at the tender age of eight Ethem started to play the guitar. At the same time he was also heavily involved in the photography and movie field due to his father’s recent acquisition of a Bell & Howell 16mm sound movie projector and camera. He was given the job of projectionist and although still so young he was responsible for setting up, lacing and projecting movies to friends and family, often on a grand scale. Remarkably for his age, he also made various, really quite accomplished documentaries using his father’s camera equipment. Although now a professional cinematographer he maintains stills photography as his cherished hobby. To view a small gallery of his photographs click here. Ethem’s love of music also grew more powerful by the day, and his romance with the electric guitar led to him turning professional in the late 60’s/early 70’s. |
As a member of the band Marble
Orchard he was even privileged enough to stand-in for the mighty Led
Zeppelin for a live concert performance in 1970. As he’ll quickly tell you
“I was almost, very nearly, famous!” He eventually gave up the
professional music scene to pursue his studies at the
London Film School. Mark Tucker Producer
